Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Calgary West focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They spend about 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry training programs are contained within these institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired significant healthcare training with an attention to on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to treat problems varying from familiar disorders for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more sophisticated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical education which provide them the practical experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities facilitates a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and prevent a large number of complications which the feet normally encounter.
