Edmonton Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Edmonton provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists put in about 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in reality quite a number podiatry training programs lie inside these academic institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.

At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received substantial medical training with a concentration on issues regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are educated to address problems ranging from general afflictions like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have considerable surgical training which furnish them the skill needed to carry out surgery on those problems that are best remedied through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems allows a Foot doctor to create footwear and orthotics that can give pain relief and defend against countless problems which the feet commonly encounter.
