Specialists here at The Foot Institute – Calgary concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists invest about a decade in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles typical medical school and in fact several podiatry training programs are located within these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received considerable healthcare education with an importance on conditions pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are qualified to manage conditions stretching from commonplace ailments for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more complex for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical education which provide them the skill required to execute surgical treatment on those troubles that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems permits a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and avoid countless troubles which the feet commonly encounter.
