Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Edmonton Downtown focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists devote an average of a decade in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programmes are located inside these academic institutions. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received wide-ranging medical instruction with a focus on problems regarding the feet and ankles. They are trained to address conditions extending from commonplace conditions like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more obscure for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which furnish them the experience needed to conduct surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait deviations facilitates a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and avoid a large number of issues which the feet frequently experience.
